The movie, "The Shawshank Redemption" illustrates this quote. The movie is set in the mid 80's and the main character, Andy Dufresne is trying to get away from his past. He decides to use prison as his chance at a fresh start. When he is put in jail, he meets a friend of his before prison named Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding.

At first, they are enemies but eventually become friends. Red helps Andy keep his head down and focused on the task at hand. After they both get out of prison, Red gets married and moves away with his family.

Andy goes on to try to start over again but meets the wrong woman and they end up breaking up for good. Without Red's help, he wouldn't even be alive today.
