In this quote from 'War and Peace', Tolstoy writes that while some friends may leave us in a time of need, there are others who will be by our side. From the beginning of the novel, we see that these friends will support Natasha throughout her trials, including the loss of her family and all of their money. In a time where people tend to abandon us in times of need, it is refreshing to see these friends remaining loyal to Natasha. It is also interesting to note that they remain so cheerful and happy even when they are in such dire straits.
