About This Quote

Here's a poem that speaks to us as humans, especially those who have ever felt the need to fight for the respect that everyone else is given without question. It's an ode to people like Junebug, Goldie, and Milkshake, three girls of different races who were harassed by store clerks in various stores throughout the country. They did not give them special treatment because of their race; they did it because of what they did. These three girls fought for their cause and won against all odds. They fought against Goldie, who was mocked for her speech impediment. They fought against Milkshake, who was told she wasn't allowed in They fought against Junebug, who was told she couldn't pay for her clothes with food stamps. Junebug was told "honky" more than thirty times by the same clerk more than once in one day. These girls represented that idea that even when people are faced with adversity, they will still fight for what they believe in and win more often than not.
