Tell all the Truth but tell it slant-- Success in Circuit lies Too bright for our infirm DelightThe Truth's superb surprise As Lightning to the Children eased With explanation kind The Truth must dazzle gradually Or every man be blind--

Emily Dickinson
About This Quote

Truth is like a mirror: “Tell all the Truth but tell it slant.” If we start out with the intent to tell the whole truth, we will become confused and we will not be able to see as clearly as we would like. That's why it is important to begin with a different motive. We must begin with the intention of telling only part of the Truth and leaving out some details. Once we bring those details into our explanation, people will not be able to understand the full meaning of the story and they will be left wondering what happened and why.

It's like how a story can be told with different themes: a murder mystery or a love story. The murder mystery might tell about a gruesome crime, but an artist can turn it into a beautiful love story by showing love between two people through his work.
