What did he understand? Nothing. Where was he headed? Nowhere. What did he want? To know. What? A meaning. Why? A riddle.

About This Quote

The quote above is a quote from the 2001 movie, “What Did He Know?” This movie is about a young man who was raised in a strict, religious family. He has always been told what to do all of his life. His father organized his life and told him what he was supposed to do. He was not allowed to make his own decisions or choices.

When he is given the chance to go to college, he has the opportunity to make the most thoughtful choice of his entire life. He knows that what he will learn at college will be far different than anything he learned at home. Although, he had no choice but to stay, he had no idea what was waiting for him there.

The man did not know what it meant to really understand anything, because all the knowledge that he knew came from inside of books and books were things that his father did not allow him to read. The young man did not know where he was going or what he wanted to do with his life, but all of this would change when he met a girl one night on campus and fell in love for the first time in his life.
