Change is always a scary thing. We try to imagine various scenarios to prepare ourselves, like Jacob did with his hypotheticals. But when you find yourself in circumstances that you never thought possible, even if frequently imagined, when the consequences of those impossible, fantasy-tinted circumstances become real, it can be paralyzing. About This Quote

In the book of Genesis, Jacob had a dream in which he saw a ladder reaching from heaven to earth. At the top of the ladder were angels, and at the bottom was a heavenly city filled with light. Jacob was terrified by his dream and spent much time trying to figure out what it meant. He spent much time and effort trying to figure out what it meant, but was often frustrated.

Finally, he realized that what he had seen was nothing more than a vivid illustration of the way things actually are. The same is true with life—we may spend all our time imagining various scenarios to prepare ourselves for the future, but when everything around us changes as suddenly as Jacob’s ladder changed, it can be paralyzing.
