The idea that we should try and focus on what we can see and not what we cannot see is a good one. It is true that we can only do so much to change the world around us. As such, we should focus on the things we can control and work toward those goals. But, as Ralph Waldo Emerson pointed out so many years ago, as long as our eyes are fixed on the horizon, we will miss the things that are right in front of our eyes.
