I was no longer afraid. Not of important men, not of trustees and such; for knowing now that there was nothing which I could expect from them, there was no reason to be afraid.

About This Quote

When we are young we tend to be cautious and afraid of those who we do not know well. We feel that the older people we meet hold more power and authority than we do. Some of us may even fear our parents and other relatives. As we grow older and gain more life experience, we begin to realize that those who seem to have more power and authority currently do not actually wield as much as they think they do.

The people in positions of power today will never be as powerful as they seem now. Instead, they will age and soon fade away as the years pass. We often forget this as we come to believe that those who are older than us still hold the most power.
