We do well to be reminded that the devil hates a praying leader and a praying church. When we begin to pray, we pick a fight with the devil at a whole new level. Yet, our calling is to be praying menaces to the enemy.

About This Quote

In the book of James, there is a section that has been used as a weapon against Christians who believe that they can be successful by taking on the role of a praying man. In the Bible, the concept of prayer is often linked to two things: 1) The ability to get an answer from God and 2) The ability to be heard by God. A praying man is a leader who is constantly reaching out to God for help and guidance. However, James points out that when one begins to pray, they are going directly against the devil. James 3:13 – But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. James 3:14 – This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. James 3:16 – By their works ye shall know them. In this passage from James, the idea of a praying church is specifically discussed.

A church that prays together will be strong and has a strong influence on its environment. A church that does not pray together will be weak and will be dominated by the enemy. There is only one exception to this rule: A church can also become weak without praying together.

However, the prayer of such a church will still leave an effect on those around it as it encourages others to pray as well (unless they already believe that prayers don’t work).
