About This Quote

Barry Schwartz has written a couple of great books on the subject of truth: The Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less and The Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less. In this quote, he explains that when people are given more information, they often do not make better decisions. There are two ways to try to determine the truth in a situation. One is to ask yourself what you would do if you were in that situation.

The other is to ask your friends what they would do if they were in that situation. When you ask your friends, you are asking them what they believe is true. When you ask yourself, you are asking what you believe is true.

One person’s idea of truth might be different from others' ideas of truth. Some people might think they know the truth but discover that they are wrong in the end. This quote also illustrates how our opinions change over time.

We start by thinking something is true but then find it isn’t true after all when new information comes along.
