Fools have a habit of believing that everything written by a famous author is admirable. For my part I read only to please myself and like only what suits my taste.

About This Quote

The quote, “Fools have a habit of believing that everything written by a famous author is admirable,” is an old one. It was cited in the 19th century. It says that when you are reading something written by somebody who is well-known, you are more likely to admire it even when you don’t agree with it. When you read something by somebody who is not well-known, you are more likely to disagree with it even when you do admire it.

Let’s say you are only able to read only one book, but it is by a famous author. You will probably enjoy that book even if you don’t agree with the author's views.
