About This Quote

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. This quote is often attributed to Gandhi but there is no evidence that he ever said it. The saying was first published in the book “The Art of Winning and Losing” by John W. Gardner in 1936, by which time it had already passed through several other writers. It cannot be found in any of Gandhi's writings or speeches, although he did say "First They Ignore You" in his autobiography.
