Oscar WildeThe advantage of the emotions is that they lead us astray, and the advantage of science is that it is not emotional.
About This Quote
When Albert Einstein was asked about the relationship between science and emotion, he replied, “The advantage of the emotions is that they lead us astray, and the advantage of science is that it is not emotional.” Einstein was dealing with a difficult problem in understanding the relationship between space and time. He was puzzled by the question of how time works. He thought that if he looked at things from a purely logical standpoint, he could easily reduce the problem to a simple equation. But, he soon realized that this approach would not work.
The equations worked beautifully when dealing with one dimension. But, when trying to solve the problem of time, they failed completely. As Einstein said, “The laws of mathematics are not certain; they are only reliable for their limited applicability.”
