It is often stated that of all the theories proposed in this century, the silliest is quantum theory. In fact, some say that the only thing that quantum theory has going for it is that it is unquestionably correct.

About This Quote

In quantum theory, a change in one or more properties of a system disturbs the probability of observing another property. For example, if you look at a particle through a slit, it is impossible to know which side of the slit you will observe an electron on. The wave-like properties of electrons that define their behavior causes the electron to be both a particle and a wave at the same time. This duality is central to quantum theory and stems from Einstein's discovery that space and time are interwoven in ways that cannot be described by Newtonian physics.

This startling idea is now known as "spooky action at a distance" and is so bizarre that it was not accepted by the scientific community until as recently as 2003. In this quote, Feynman parodies those who don't believe in quantum theory because it seems so weird. He also used "silliest" because he thought it was silly to claim something is correct without proof.
