I took a bite of lobster meat with rice. It was quite tasty. 'Arguing the morality of slaughter will send you into a tailspin of self-loathing every time.' 'Unless you're a vegan.' 'Uh-huh. But then you're a vegan and you don't count.

About This Quote

One of the best ways to overcome something that is unpleasant or that makes you feel guilty is to ignore it. Take a lobster, for instance. People may think that lobsters are cruel and barbaric, but on the other hand they are intelligent creatures. They feel pain and fear, just like people do.

But lobsters don't have the ability to speak or write on Twitter. So why should we be concerned with how they feel? You can eat your lobster! And, if you don't enjoy it, you can just throw it away. It's no big deal! However, if you are someone who cares about animal rights, then this is not the way to go about things.

You can argue that it is cruel to kill lobsters or that the lobsters are just as intelligent as you are. But that won't help you feel better about yourself. It won't help anyone.

That's why this quote is so great at showing us how to overcome our problems, because it doesn't allow us to rationalize them away. We have to deal with them where they are and at their own level of existence before we can move on with our lives.
