About This Quote

In this quote from the film, "One Fine Day," Joe Flaherty tells his son that he just hopes he remembers to tell his kids that they are as happy as he looks in his old photographs. In a sense, he’s saying he hopes he told his children how happy he was when he was young and healthy, because when you’re in a certain age you can’t be in a happy place in your life. The best you can hope for is to be as happy as it looks in photos from when you were young and strong. This is what people want when they look at old photos of themselves when they were younger, but when you’re faced with aging and illness, there’s no guarantee that looking back at photos from your youth will make you feel any better about yourself. In the middle of all the troubles we face in life we must never forget what we look like today and how we feel, and we must always remember to tell our children how we feel and what we look like to them so that they will know we love them and how much we appreciate them no matter what happens to us.
