A man woke up at midnight and wanted to smoke. Therefore he looked for some fire, for which he went to a neighbor’s house and knocked at the door. The neighbor opened the door and asked him what he wanted. The man said, I wish to smoke. Can you give me a little fire? The neighbor replied, O.M.G.! What the heck is wrong with you? You have taken so much trouble to come and wake us up at the middle of the night, while in your own hand you have a lantern! The God that human beings so keenly seek, lives within the human biology, yet they wander hitherto searching for it. Abhijit Naskar
About This Quote

The proverb makes a direct reference to the biblical story of King Solomon and his wisdom that was given to him by God. In the story, the king asked for wisdom from God and took ten of Israel’s finest men to ask him about the construction of a house. The king wanted to know how to build a house without either going up or going down. When he presented them with this challenge, they all failed to solve it.

One by one, each man left in despair. Finally, the last man left before he gave up completely. He went back into the house, woke up his wife and said, O.M.G! What is wrong with you? You have taken so much trouble to come and wake us up at the middle of the night, while in your own hand you have a lantern! In this story, the king represents Solomon and the 10 men represent all of Israel.

The king wanted wisdom from God and took 10 men with him to ask him. After each man failed, he left in despair until his last man returned to tell him that they did not succeed because God lives within them and they did not understand.
