On a trip to Ireland I read a quote from the Dublin writer, Alice Dowling. In it, she writes about how she learned from her mistakes and how they have shaped her as a person. She writes, “Every lesson I have ever been taught has been a lesson that I have had to learn or relearn.” As I read the quote, I thought of all the times when I have made wrong choices or done something stupid when in retrospect I should have just listened to my mother or taken another path.
