Poverty has its advantages. When you're that poor what would you have that anyone would want? Except your peace of mind. Your dignity. Your heart. The important things.

About This Quote

The writer of this phrase was a man with a very rich and sheltered past. He grew up knowing nothing but luxury and wealth. But what he couldn’t know was how to make a living. So he found himself at the bottom of the social ladder, sitting on his bed with what little money he had left.

He was so broke that he didn’t even have enough to buy food for himself. This is not to say that he earned nothing. The money came from his parents, who were both well-to-do people.

But they only paid him what they thought he could manage on his own, and let him live in their house rent-free. When you do not have to worry about food or shelter, you can spare the money that would normally go to these things for something else, like education or health care -or just fun. I think this man should be commended for having the courage to do something about his situation, instead of staying where he was comfortable.

To be truly poor is to feel ashamed of your circumstances; it is also to feel helpless and hopeless. But the poor man took action by reading books, learning new skills, and doing all sorts of things that might change his life for the better
