I'm only fifteen. I'm not sure I ever want to get married. I'm neither messing around while waiting nor looking for some "real thing". What I want is much more complicated. I want somebody to talk about books, who would be my friend, and why couldn't we have sex as well if we wanted to? (And used contraception.) I'm not looking for romance. Lord Peter and Harriet would seem a pretty good model to me. I wonder if Wim has read Sayers?. Jo Walton
About This Quote

This quote is an eloquent way of describing what can be a very confusing stage in life for many teenagers. Teenagers, especially boys, are often unsure of their future and don’t really know what they want. The “Lord Peter and Harriet” model is the model that many people follow. When one person finds their soul mate it is due to their love of literature and their similar interests.

However, this quote is not really talking about the relationship between Harriet and Lord Peter Wimsey. It is also not talking about when Wimsey proposed to Harriet, which she refused. Rather, the quote is referring to when Wimsey and Harriet got together in the first place.

From all that we know in the books, it sounds like Harriet and Wimsey became good friends during their time working together on a murder case and then they started dating after turning in a case they solved. This sounds more like a friendship than a romance and we learn later that they were not sexually involved at all. It seems like Wimsey was looking for someone he could talk about books with or maybe even maybe get along with on some level but it sounds like he was looking for something more than just friends.
