I love you as the mother of my child": the kiss of death. Mother of His Child: demotion. I am beginning to see this truism: Mothers are not always wives. I have been stripped of a piece of self.

About This Quote

This is an old saying that was popular when the only way to die of old age was by being struck by a bolt of lightning. If you were killed in this manner, your soul would be carried up to heaven and you would join the gods. If you were struck by a bolt of lightning while walking on a beach, your soul would go straight to the pearly gates. Nowadays, we can choose whether or not we want our soul to go up or down.

The idea is that if the soul goes up, it receives a reward in heaven. In contrast, if the soul goes down, it receives punishment in hell.
