I have never found anybody who could stand to accept the daily demonstrative love I feel in me, and give back as good as I give.

About This Quote

The secret to happiness is not thinking of others. When you love another person, it is natural for your mind to think about them all the time. You will think about what they are doing, where they are, what they are saying, how you relate, if you like the same things, if they like you back. When this happens, you will feel a sense of love in your heart and a warmth in your chest.

But when you try to give that person this love back, at first there is a sense of panic in your chest. Your mind tells you that this isn’t the right thing to do. You can’t just throw yourself into someone else’s life and expect them to return the favor.

In other words, it doesn’t work that way. It isn’t fair for someone to expect you to give them everything and not get anything in return. If you do this, then you make a false assumption about someone else’s intentions and cause unnecessary stress for yourself and them both.
