Kelli Farrell talks about the difference between girls and boys who struggle to get through high school: "Girls, especially those whose moms are head of household, get the message that men come and go, that they're going to have to take care of themselves and their kids. They're ready for the opportunity to step up. By the last year or two in high school, many boys have already steeled themselves for failure. They've checked out intellectually, mentally, and emotionally. . Peg Tyre
About This Quote

Girls are taught from a very young age how to do things. They are taught from the time they are born how to talk, walk, wear dresses, and they are taught by their mothers how to make them do their chores. If a girl is not doing her chores, your mother will come up to you and say, "Molly, please do your chores." The hardest part about being a girl is being a girl. It's hard for a girl to take care of herself and it's hard for a girl to depend on herself.

When a boy reaches the point that he doesn't want to be a boy anymore, he'll start taking himself apart. He'll think he's so much smarter than his dad or his friends' dads. He'll think he can do everything better than they can.

And when he gets around girls, he'll start thinking that they're not supposed to be smart or good at anything. He thinks that girls aren't supposed to be good in sports or good in school or good in science or any other subject area. He thinks that girls aren't supposed to be able to read in a book or write a report or in a paragraph or in a sentence.

All of these things go through his mind in high school when he's struggling with himself and looking for the easy way out.
