With more than 50 years of experience in counseling, I often see the impact that one person has on another. As a counselor, I often see teenagers who are deeply troubled, but who I am able to help. However, some counselors would do more harm than good by letting their own strongly held opinions come through in what they say to their clients. It is easy for someone to be affirming when they believe in what they are saying.

But, it is very difficult for someone who is skeptical or who has no faith in anything to be able to give the same affirmation. A counselor needs to present ideas and information objectively, without personal bias.
