About This Quote

This quote is often attributed to writer Edgar Allen Poe. While this quote does appear in many of Poe's writings, the earliest written appearance was in 1834 in "The Literati." It also appears in 1827 in his book "Tamerlane and Other Poems," but it was not included in the 1831 edition. Regardless, Poe did have a habit of making up quotes that he didn't actually say, so this one could be fake.
