You don't have to get a job that makes others feel comfortable about what they perceive as your success. You don't have to explain what your plan to do with your life. You don't have to justify your education by demonstrating its financial rewards. You don't have to maintain an impeccable credit score. Anyone who expects you to do any of those things has no sense of history of economics or science or the arts. Cheryl Strayed
About This Quote

This is another one of those quotes that seems to contradict itself. On the one hand, it’s saying you don’t have to do certain things to be successful. On the other hand, it’s saying you don’t have to explain what your plan is for your life. This suggests that success isn’t about doing enough to earn people’s respect, but doing enough to earn their approval.

The idea of an “impeccable credit score” is funny because it sounds like the sort of thing that you’d want to keep secret or keep out of sight. But there are some people who take pride in their ability to stay on top of their finances well enough to make sure they can afford an expensive car, a fabulous mansion and all the things that go along with them.
