In the past, when gays were very flamboyant as drag queens or as leather queens or whatever, that just amused people. And most of the people that come and watch the gay Halloween parade, where all those excesses are on display, those are straight families, and they think it's funny. But what people don't think is so funny is when two middle-aged lawyers who are married to each other move in next door to you and your wife and they have adopted a Korean girl and they want to send her to school with your children and they want to socialize with you and share a drink over the backyard fence. That creeps people out, especially Christians. So, I don't think gay marriage is a conservative issue. I think it's a radical issue. Edmund White
About This Quote

In this quote from a speech given by Richard A. Viguerie, he is saying that his stand on the gay marriage issue is being pushed by a group of people that are far from conservative. Gay marriage has become a radical issue because of the growing number of people who support it. He believes that it is a conservative issue but that conservative Christians have been pushed to this position because they have been pushed into the background of society.

Viguerie believes that being gay is a choice and not a natural trait as some people believe, and as such does not deserve any rights. In his opinion, those who are pushed to this side of the argument are those who want to live in accordance with their own values. Furthermore, Viguerie expresses his belief that those same people who push the idea of gay marriage are those who want to push a lot of other things on society as well, such as abortion on demand and same-sex adoption by any means necessary.
