About This Quote

The process of writing has something infinite about it. Even though it is interrupted each night, it is one single notation, and it seems most true when it eschews artistic devices of any sort. The work of a writer may seem infinite because there is no end to the number of books that could be written or stories that could be told. There are only so many hours in a day and there is never enough time to do everything we want to do.

But, not doing anything at all is also not an option. A writer may begin with nothing but a blank piece of paper, but they can make their mark on the world for all time. Writing is truly one single notation because once the words are written they can never be taken back or changed.

The words will stay on paper forever unless someone destroys them by erasing them with pencil leads or water. However, the words aren’t truly infinite if they are erased. They can always be recreated if someone decides to do so later on in life.
