This quote comes from a short story by Julio Cortazar entitled The Extraordinary Rendezvous of Edgar Allan Poe and F. T. Marinetti, or The Return of the Shadow .

In this story, a mysterious man shows up at a party with a glass of wine and a pipe, and disappears shortly after. Poe spends a lot of time trying to figure out who the man is and why he has appeared at this particular party, but cannot figure it out. The title is taken directly from this story, as is some of the dialogue, such as "El curioso" which is Spanish for the word "the curious one".
