We talk of plans that are going to happen. We talk of the future, as if we know we will last. There is a sort of comfort in that. We are trying to make sure the future doesn't catch us off guard, so we can take steps to make sure our plan is successful.
The problem with this quote is that it assumes that the future will be the same as today, so there is no point in planning for it. If you believe that the future will be different then you have two choices: Either you try to change what you can or you take steps towards preparing for what's ahead.
