I sensed her before I saw her but I didn't scream. I remember thinking at the time that the split seconds before death were a quiet and still place. Her eyes were unapologetic, piercing and untamed. This is how it will end, I thought to myself with no sense of tragedy. It seemed complete and, in a way, romantic. But another second passed and then another. She released me from her hypnotic gaze and bent her beautiful head. And then with gentle flicks of her tongue began to drink from the river. Her eyes never wavered from mine as she lapped at the cool waters that flowed between us. And then, in a blink and a whisper, she was gone. . Giselle Fox
About This Quote

The story in the quote is about a young girl called “Juana” who lived in Spain in the 17th century. She was very beautiful and had a lot of admirers. One day when she was bathing, she was bitten by an insect. She soon passed away after this incident.

While she was alive, she often heard voices in her head telling her that something bad would happen to her. One day she overheard one of the admirers of hers saying that he would kill her if he could. Juana was very scared and thought that this man would eventually do it.

She tried to warn him but he refused to believe her. She would always stay away from him but one day when he came to visit, she saw his eyes change into snake eyes and saw the determination in his face. This frightened her so much that she decided not to say anything about what she had seen before that night.

The next day when he came to visit, he asked for Juana and when Juana heard his voice, the same thing happened again where she saw his eyes change into snake eyes. This time however, when he told Juana that he was going to kill her, she felt terrified and ran away from him while screaming for help. Unfortunately, she did not make it far enough before the men found her.

She was killed by them but at least she died knowing that someone else loved her enough to try and do something about what she had seen before dying herself.
