About This Quote

When Eduardo Galeano was a teenager, he spent his time in the streets of Buenos Aires. He was bullied by other kids, not because he was poor or couldn’t fight back but because they thought he was different. He thought that he was strange for being fascinated with death and the macabre. When Galeano was 16 years old, his father died suddenly.

It was then that Galeano resolved that he would never die. He started to explore the macabre by reading literature that focused on death and funeral rituals. He became obsessed with the idea of eternal life and decided to change his name to Eduardo Galeano.
