About This Quote

During the reign of King George II, people were committed to the idea that all men were created equal. However, it is impossible for men to be equal when they are in different social classes. The lower classes believed they were barely better than animals because they were treated so badly by the upper classes. James Boswell wrote in his journal, “It was in the reign of King George II. that the above-named personages lived and quarrelled ; good or bad, handsome or ugly, rich or poor, they are all equal now.” In other words, the lower classes rose to new heights after being denied equality by their aristocracy.
