Small vests hold two layers of Kevlar material in a lightweight cloth carrier, while the large vest holds three layers of metal within an outer protective shell.

It is believed that when you wear a bulletproof vest, your body absorbs all the impact when it is hit by fragments from bullets. However, this does not mean that bullets cannot penetrate these vests. The Kevlar vest can actually protect you from shrapnel, however.
