About This Quote

In the siege of Orleans, King Henry II was besieged by the French army. In order to escape from the siege, Henry II planned to escape through a secret tunnel. However, two of his men died from the diseases caused by the dampness and cold. The king was devastated by their deaths and felt that he had no choice but to kill himself. He was willing to die, but he never wanted to die without honor – without dying in battle.
