The world is too brutal for me– I am glad there is such a thing as the grave– I am sure I shall never have any rest till I get there.

About This Quote

Throughout all his life, John Keats was plagued by depression. He didn't find rest in life, only the grave, and he continued to write poems expressing his angst over never being able to connect with the world or to experience any joy. He believed that the only way to be at peace, the only way to achieve happiness, was through death. His sense of isolation seemed so severe that his life was probably shortened by suicide.
