The flesh surrenders itself. Eternity takes back its own. Our bodies stirred these waters briefly, danced with a certain intoxication before the love of life and self, dealt with a few strange ideas, then submitted to the instruments of Time. What can we say of this? I occurred. I am not...yet, I occurred. Frank Herbert
About This Quote

I am not... yet, I occurred is a quote from the play by Jean Anouilh. In Jean Anouilh’s play, "Antigone," there is a character called Creon who is a king and a prisoner of his own laws. Creon is a ruler who tries to control the actions of all in his kingdom.

Creon does not allow anyone to think outside of what he has told them. He changes everything that he can in the lives of his people because it allows him to be in power. Creon goes after Antigone because she does not obey him, she defies him.

When Creon finds out that Antigone has died, he comes across her body and says, "I am not...yet, I occurred." This means that he did not personally kill her but he also did not stop it from happening or try to prevent it. Creon did not stop himself from killing Antigone but did nothing to stop the killing itself. Antigone's death was entirely up to her actions and she was responsible for her own fate.
