Why couldn't two unhappy people refresh each other on their way through this dusty business of life by a little talk - real, natural talk, about what they felt, what they would have liked, what they still tried to hope for?

Elizabeth Von Arnim
About This Quote

The world is full of people who are living their lives, but they are not really living their lives. They are dying their lives. They are dying their own hopes, dreams, goals, ambitions, ideas, and even their own emotions. It is not that these people don't have anything to say - they do have something to say.

But they keep it hidden inside themselves for fear of being misunderstood or even judged. The problem is that real communication is impossible if you are not completely yourself. When you are at your best friend's house for dinner, the conversation should flow naturally and be easy to follow.

That's how conversations should be between two people who know each other well. Unfortunately, life is not always so good when you're trying to have a real conversation with someone close to you. You have to say things that may seem stupid or wrong to the person you are trying to communicate with.

More often than not, the person you seek advice from will either not understand what you want or will make fun of your ideas instead of giving advice on how to make them better. When you feel disappointed with yourself because your ideas either don't make sense or turn out bad, there's nothing wrong with looking for advice from someone who knows better than you do about certain subjects.
