Why did dusk and fir-scent and the afterglow of autumnal sunsets make people say absurd things?

About This Quote

Dusk is a time of calm after the day’s work is done. It is the time when the sun goes down, but there are still colors to be seen on the horizon. The afterglow of the sunset is the last little bit of light that lingers for a few minutes after darkness has fallen. I’m not sure why this quote is funny. It just seems to fit the Twilight Zone theme.
