Two separate beings, in different circumstances, face to face in freedom and seeking justification of their existence through one another, will always live an adventure full of risk and promise." (p. 248)

Simone De Beauvoir
About This Quote

In the essay, "The Nature of Love," by Simone de Beauvoir, a woman and a man meet at a party. They have been attracted to each other from the moment they met. But they have never been able to express these feelings for each other until one night they have an opportunity to kiss. In this moment, they finally feel as though they are free to be together.

However, as soon as their lips meet, as soon as they become one person, they begin to fight. The woman becomes angry with the man for kissing her and feeling her up. She says that she has never felt this way before and she wants him to stop touching her body.

He argues that she is a different person now that he has kissed her and that he cannot stop touching her because he loves her now.
