In the poem, “I know I am but summer to your heart”, Robert Herrick, the author, is comparing himself to the seasons. He compares himself to summer and not winter and he states that he can’t bring the spring to his lover. He says that he has loved his lover too much and that he can’t bring back the spring and summer to her. He is saying that they only have one season and it is over.

This is a very sad poem because he seems to be talking about them not having a future together because of the age difference. I really like this poem because it shows how love is important no matter what season it is in.
