About This Quote

To wish was to hope, and to hope was to expect. These two phrases are not exactly synonymous, but they are both saying the same thing. When one hopes, they are expecting something to happen. We all have that moment where we wish something would happen or that we could do something that would make our life better, but what happens when you actually try to do it? If you had wished for something earlier in life, then you would have been able to claim it as your own.

Instead, you had to hope for it. Hope is a more realistic belief than wish because it allows you to take actions toward getting what you want.
