About This Quote

There's a thin line between genius and bottom-barrel stupidness. I hover delicately on a tightrope between the two, wondering where I'll land if I'll ever fall. I have always been smart, but sometimes it feels like it's my gift that keeps me from being smart enough to avoid stupid mistakes. When things aren't going well, I tend to second-guess myself too much.

The other day, I was watching TV when the show started playing commercials. All of a sudden, I was struck by an overwhelming feeling that one of the ads wasn't appropriate for children. So, naturally, I changed the channel.

When my wife asked what was wrong, I said that there was an ad for "mommy porn" or something like that. The next thing I knew, she was telling me how much she hated the commercial and how upset she got when she saw it. And she's not easily upset! So obviously, something fishy was going on there.

My wacky logic put her in an uncomfortable position and that made me feel like an idiot. It's frustrating when you're not only right but better at it than everyone else!
