It is in support of the meat industry which kills animals for food with no regard for their feelings or well-being at all. The animals in today’s meat industry are treated with extreme cruelty, both before and after they are slaughtered. They are confined in filthy conditions, forced to live their entire lives in tiny cages, hung upside down by their necks so they can’t move, and injected with toxins without painkillers so they grow faster.

These terrible living conditions cause myriad health problems for these animals simply because they are denied veterinary care. Even though it is illegal to raise animals in this way in most of the United States, this system still exists in many places around the world. PETA therefore is encouraging people who care about animals not to eat them by urging them to go vegan.
