It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.

About This Quote

In the beginning of the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain refers to a man known as “Injun Joe.” Injun Joe is a character from a certain part of the country known as "the West." He's a tough, ruthless, and vicious man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. When Huck and Jim set out with Injun Joe, they have no idea what they're getting into. They have no clue that Injun Joe will kill them in cold blood if they don't do as he says. But Huck and Jim don't listen.

They trust Injun Joe and follow him on his journey—one that will end in their own death. Along the way, they learn from Injun Joe and from each other about life and death, friendship, and the strength of a person's spirit. And even though Injun Joe tried to kill them more than once—and they almost died more than once—they never gave up on each other.
