There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.

Patrick Rothfuss
About This Quote

In the following quote from The Aeneid, Vergil refers to three of the most dangerous things that can happen to a hero. First, he says that a man must fear the sea in storm. Although a man may be a great warrior and have a ship to safely navigate the stormy sea, he is still at risk. Next, A man must fear a night with no moon. Again, if a man is a great warrior and has a ship to navigate his way through the darkness of night, he risks being killed by his enemy. Finally, Vergil says that A gentle man also makes those around him angry. In this case it’s not those around him but his enemy that is angry.
