About This Quote

When Pharaoh’s magicians could not turn water into wine, they said that God had given them the power to do so. When they were not able to defeat Moses and the Israelites, the Pharaoh sought help from his magicians. One of these magicians turned a staff into a snake and told them to kill Moses. However, the staff turned back into a staff and was struck dead on the ground.

God had struck down the magicians with his own hand and killed their foolishness. In this quote from "Paradise Lost", John Milton, God is portrayed as an angry but powerful being who can kill those who attempt to defy him.
