I thought, He must forebear to reveal His power and glory by presenting Himself as Himself, and must be present only in the ordinary miracle of the existence of His creatures. Those who wish to see Him must see Him in the poor, the hungry, the hurt, the wordless creatures, the groaning and travailing beautiful world. Wendell Berry
About This Quote

There are two things that humans love the most: beautiful things and suffering. The more beautiful something is, the more we want to see it; and, for this reason, we often look at the world through rose-colored glasses. We want to believe that everything is perfect. But, there are also many people who are so used to pain that they can’t live without it.

The problem with this approach is that it makes people vulnerable. They are so used to being hurt that they are prone to accepting hurtful people into their lives. The truth is, they are giving their power away.

They don’t have any power left, because they have given it all away.
