In the midst of her tears came the thought, "When people are in danger, they ask God to save them;" and, slipping down upon her knees, she said her prayer as she had never said it before, for when human help seems gone we turn to Him as naturally as lost children cry to their father, and feel sure that he will hear and answer them. Louisa May Alcott
About This Quote

When the British soldiers were in danger, they asked God to save them. The men had dug a tunnel under the enemy lines and were on the other side. They had set up their machine gun on one side of the hole they had dug and were ready to shoot through at the Germans on the other side. But it was raining.

The water was coming down so fast that they nearly drowned before they could warn their comrades of the danger. As soon as they saw that it was raining, their first thought was that it would wash away their tunnel, but instead of crying for help, they prayed.
