In this quote, he is making a point about the difference between a person who believes in God and a person who believes in themselves. As Shakespeare was describing, people who have hope in the belief in God have a deeper connection to their world. He doesn’t say that they have a deeper connection to the world at large, but to the people in it. In other words, when you believe in God you know that no matter how much money you have, or how much power you have, you cannot take it with you when you die.

You have to leave something behind for others or else you will be punished after death for not leaving anything behind. But when your hope is in your own ability and abilities, there is no one to help you if things go wrong.
